Indeo and Online Orders FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Purchasing Indeo

I keep getting a pop-up in Windows telling me I need Indeo for my application or webcam, and referring me to your site. Do I have to buy Indeo?

You may not need to, but we do not offer Indeo for free and no trial or demo version is available. The message you see was generated by Windows. If you are being prompted by Windows or your application to get Indeo, you should first check with the manufacturer of your software or Microsoft Support before purchasing as they may have a free update available.

I have an application that requires Indeo, but I’m running Windows 7, Windows Vista or a 64-bit Windows OS

Ligos’ Software Codecs for Windows are not supported on those operating systems due to changes made by Microsoft. You will need to contact Microsoft Support for a solution.

I have an application that requires Indeo, but I’m running a Mac

Ligos does not offer Indeo Codecs for the Mac operating systems.

Do I get a hard copy on CD with my purchase?

No, Ligos Indeo Software Codecs for Windows are available through download only. You are entitled and encouraged to make a back up copy for your own personal use (if, for instance, you ever have to re-install your OS).

What versions of the Indeo codecs are included with Ligos Indeo Software Codecs for Windows?

Ligos Indeo Software Codecs for Windows includes the codecs for Indeo Video versions 4 and 5, and Audio version 2.5. All other versions (such as Indeo 2 and 3) are no longer available and no longer supported.

My application requires Indeo 5.11 but Windows has Indeo 5.10 on my system. Do I need a new version?

Microsoft once distributed Indeo 5.10 on its operating systems as a core system file. Ligos Indeo Software Codecs for Windows will not install on those systems. You will need to contact Microsoft Support for a solution.

I had Indeo on my system but it has stopped working after I did a Windows Update. Can you help?

You will need to contact Microsoft Support for a solution.

Do I get a receipt?

Yes, an invoice is e-mailed to you along with the download information once your order has been processed. Make certain that you provide us with an accurate e-mail address. If you do not get the confirmation e-mail within a few minutes, check your “Spam” or “Bulk Mail” folder, as it may have been routed there by your e-mail application.

I was disconnected during the download process. My password does not work anymore.

Access to the download page should be available for a few days after your purchase. If the username and password do not work, e-mail our customer support at sales@ligos.com with your name, e-mail address, order number and date of purchase, and we will provide you with a new username and password for access.

I lost my original download version of the software and the download site is now closed. How can I re-download without being charged again?

If you have previously purchased and downloaded a product from us, and have lost the original installation file, you can request a new download by e-mailing our customer support at sales@ligos.com. Provide your name, e-mail address, and date of purchase, Order ID from the original e-mail (if available), and we will look up your record and contact you with information for a new download.

I received LSX-MPEG for Adobe Premiere as a part of a bundled package. Can I upgrade my version to the latest
release?

Our LSX-MPEG line of products was retired in 2002. Upgrades for LSX-MPEG products are no longer available.

I placed an order online and was told that it will be manually processed, but haven’t received the download information and serial number.

The billing information you entered at the time of order has failed the address verification system. E-mail our customer support at sales@ligos.com with your Order ID and correct billing information. We will e-mail you the download information.

I went through the process and the sale was confirmed, but when I click on the link, I get the following message (or similar):

Authorization Required

This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn’t understand how to supply the credentials required.

The download link creates a pop-up window which will request the username and password given to you in your download email. If you do not get the pop-up window, you may need to change the following:

- If you use a “pop-up blocker” application, disable it before clicking the link (or set it to allow pop-ups on the Ligos site)
- You may need to delete your Temporary Internet files in your browser
- You made need to enable your browser’s security settings to allow downloads

Example: In Internet Explorer from the Menu, select Tools–> Internet Options –> Security tab–> Custom Level —> and check off “Enable Downloads”

You may also need to reset your general security settings: Tools–> Internet Options –> Security tab–> Custom Level –> Reset custom settings and select “Low”

You will need to close Internet Explorer and re-open in order for the changes to take effect. After you have met all of these conditions, try the link again.

If the pop up box appears but your username and password are not accepted, please contact Sales Support at sales@ligos.com

I’m trying to order Indeo online but the server keeps rejecting, or having errors after submitting information.

Above all, be certain that the billing address you enter matches that of the credit card account you are using.

Otherwise, it’s possible that the payment verification system may be down. Try again later, or try starting over from this link : https://secure.ligos.com/cgi-bin/order?productID=indeoxp52

I downloaded Indeo without a problem, but when I try to install it, the installation process freezes where it reports, “Searching for instances of NETSCAPE, Please Wait ….”

- Double-click the installation file
- Choose “Custom” set up. A number of options will appear
- Scroll down the list to “Web Browser Plugin”
- UNCHECK ” Web Browser Plugin
- Follow prompts to the finish

Indeo Support

The Ligos Indeo Software Codecs package is distributed “as is” for use with applications that require these codecs for media playback.

Indeo and Microsoft Windows Issue

General - Beginning with the 2002 update to Windows XP (known as Service Pack 1), Microsoft began inconsistent changes regarding the inclusion of the Indeo codecs in its software, which at one time were always a base part of its operating system. For a long period of time, they were not available at all. However, a number of older webcams, games and multimedia titles require Indeo to be installed on the OS in order to function. The inconsistency remains the case of the recently released Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems (which we do not support), though there are indications that Microsoft has begun including a version of Indeo 5.10 in these newer OSes again.

Please note that these are Microsoft’s decisions alone, as Ligos honors any legacy Indeo Distribution Agreements between Intel and other parties. We are never informed in advance of Microsoft’s decisions on this matter. Questions and comments should be directed to Microsoft through one of their support channels, or to the company from whom you purchased your software.

As an option to meet the needs of those Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP (only) users who still require Indeo, Ligos has created an enhanced bundle of the Indeo codecs called Ligos Indeo Codecs. This package includes Indeo Video version 5.2, as well as support for the older Indeo Video 4.5 and Indeo Audio 2.5 codecs. Free versions of Indeo are no longer available from Ligos. Indeo versions 2.x and 3.x are no longer available, and no longer supported.

Windows XP Vista SP2 and Windows 7 - As of May 2009, Ligos noticed indications that Microsoft had begun including versions of Indeo in these operating systems and associated updates, as is their right. These are treated as Core System Files, and cannot be disabled or overwritten by the user. As a result, Ligos Indeo Software Codecs are not usable with these operating systems. In addition, some applications require Indeo 5.11 or greater and may not function on these newer Microsoft OSes. Unfortunately, Ligos is unable to provide a solution to users having issues with this change. Users should contact the original manufacturer of their application or webcam for help, and contact Microsoft Support for a solution. If you have one of these OSes, you should not purchase Ligos Indeo Software Codecs as they will not install, and we are unable to provide refunds for this issue.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Vista - With the 2004 update to Windows XP (known as Service Pack 2), Microsoft has made security changes to the OS and Windows Media Player 9 and up that prohibit the direct playback of Indeo content online. Users will find that they will no longer be able to automatically play video files posted on the web if they were encoded with the Indeo codec. Windows Media Player will only play Indeo files if they are local (on your hard drive). Questions and comments should be directed to Microsoft through one of their support channels.

Pre-release/beta/release versions of “Windows 7″ - Indeo Codecs are not supported on any version of the upcoming OS known as “Windows 7″. Indeo will no longer be supported when Windows 7 is released. Users are encouraged to contact Microsoft to obtain the version of Indeo they are currently distributing and supporting.

64-bit Windows Operating Systems - Please note that Indeo Codecs are not compatible with any 64-bit version of Windows OSes (Windows XP 64-bit Edition for Itanium systems, Windows XP 64-bit Edition Version 2003, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, 64-bit versions of Windows Server, and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista).

3rd Party Webcameras, Multimedia and Game Titles

Please note that we can only support the installation of the Ligos Indeo Codecs package itself, and the playback of Indeo encoded media through players like Windows Media Player. Ligos Corporation does not provide support for software or hardware titles that use Indeo (such as Carnivores, Thief II, Instant Immersion Language, Links, Encarta, Mafia, James Bond 007 Nightfire, Wheel of Fortune, Tonka Search and Rescue, Asheron’s Call, Risk II, Logitech QuickCams, etc.).

If you have been referred to this page by a pop-up message or a third-party provider (for another hardware or software product), and are not certain that you require Indeo to make your product work, please contact the original manufacturer. We cannot provide support for or answer questions regarding third party products. In addition, as Ligos Indeo Codecs is a downloadable product, we do not offer refunds once the purchase has been made. Please see the section on Sales Policies for additional information and to get assistance.

If you have difficulty installing Indeo, please refer to the documentation below, or contact Ligos Indeo support e-mail address listed below for assistance. If you continue to have difficulty with your game or multimedia title after the proper installation of Indeo, you will need to contact that company for further assistance.

Indeo

IndeoLigos® Corporation’s Indeo Software® codec family provides video and audio codecs that help multimedia producers and web developers create high-quality distributable media without the expense or complexity of special hardware. The codecs (video versions 4 and 5, and audio codec version 2.5) were originally developed by Intel® Corporation, and for years have been a popular solution for video and audio in CD-ROM games, computer training titles, encyclopedias and online media. Ligos continues to distribute Indeo software for legacy applications still requiring its use in Windows 95, 98, ME, XP and NT/2000 operating systems.

If you have been referred to this page by a pop-up message or a third-party software provider (for a game or other multimedia product), and are not certain that you require Indeo to make your software work, you must contact the original manufacturer and Microsoft. We cannot support or answer questions regarding third party software or hardware. In addition, as the Ligos Indeo Codecs package is a downloadable product, we do not offer refunds once the purchase has been made. Please see the Support and Sales FAQ pages for additional information.

PLEASE NOTE: Indeo is not supported for use with Microsoft’s “Vista” or “Windows 7″, or any Apple Mac operating systems. In addition, some Indeo-dependent applications may not work at all on those OSes, and Ligos is unable to provide a solution. More details below.
